Overview of Bulgaria
Bulgaria is located in southeastern Europe and is part of the Baltic countries. It borders countries such as Romania, Greece, Turkey and Macedonia; to the east is the Black Sea. Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe, with Sofia being the capital, is estimated to be about 7,000 years old. With so much history, Bulgaria is home to a dozen UNESCO sites. Prior to falling under the Ottoman empire, Bulgaria was actually about three times the size it is now.
Bulgarian is the common language spoken and the currency used is Bulgarian Lev. Aside for visiting Sofia, it is recommended to see the oldest city Plovdiv, and exploring the beautiful nature. Its well known for their mountains and amazing rock formations along the water. It’s a safe country to visit with very friendly people!
